Why Sewer Cleanup Is Important

Have you ever wondered where the water ends up after you brush your teeth or use the toilet? Depending on the type of sewer system your home’s sewer is connected to, you can assume that that wastewater trickles down into your city’s main sewer system. This water is then directed to a sewage treatment facility, go through several treatment stages, and then finally released back to the river.

How High-Quality Sewer Cleaning Tools like Nozzles Keep Pipes Clean

One of the key pieces in sewer cleaning is the use of high-quality sewer nozzles. First developed in the 1950s, sewer nozzles were initially rounded pieces of steel with drilled holes. However, as researchers and inventors learned more about the relationship between pressure and flow ratio, the simple, round nozzle evolved and gave rise to hundreds of nozzle types.

Today, drain and pipeline cleaning professionals take their pick of nozzles based on the jet angle they need, water flow required, and the kind of blockage or debris they are dealing with. It’s been said that about 10 different nozzles may be used to successfully clean a particular area in a sewer line. In fact, experts recommend that cleaning operators invest in a few (no more than a dozen) versatile sewer nozzles and learn their proper applications.

Versatile Sewer Cameras Help Detect the Root Cause of Sewer Blockages

With so many potential root causes and considering how different sewer blockages require different treatments, it’s a must for sewer maintenance and repair professionals to accurately identify what is causing the problem. This is where excellent sewer cameras come in.

High-quality sewer inspection equipment from suppliers like the Haaker Equipment Company can ensure that the reason for a blockage is detected early and correctly. Such a visualization device is necessary because not all sewer pipes are easily accessible, wherein some are only a few inches wide in diameter. It’s a good thing that several models of sewer cameras are small enough to be inserted into small holes of pipes to determine what is blocking them. When the problem has been identified, efforts to repair the sewer line can be started.

Picking the Right Sewer Nozzles for High-Pressure Waterjet Cleaning

Among this wide array of sewer cleaning tools, it is vital to get a basic debris remover. Carefully note the nozzle’s number of jets beforehand; along with the jets’ sizes, the gallons per minute (GPM) that the truck can churn, the hose length, and the preferred operating pressure. As a general rule, do not work at maximum pressure – in fact, end hose pressures of 850 to 950 Psi are enough. Suppliers themselves can also provide information, so be sure to ask them about the product.

Drilled or replaceable nozzles are all you need for smaller, 3 to 6-inch sewer lines. On the other hand, bigger pipes need the right truck to go along with the nozzle, to ensure enough GPM is produced. More GPM means bigger jets and more powerful cleaning. Rounded nozzles with 4 to 8 jets are enough for 8-inch to 15-inch sewer lines. For pipes larger than 15 inches, a nozzle known as a bottom cleaner is preferred.
